The Mixed Up Compilation of 0.0007863226593% of the Whole Secret to Life

--------

Closet Super Heroes
What's worse and more frustating (decoding the identity of) than Spider-man is a Closet Spider-man.

It's not that you're an underachiever, you're just underappreciated. There are times when you shun the spotlight. It's not that you don't want to be noticed, you just don't want all the fuss that comes with the word lime light, spotlight, ___light.

Fret not if what you do is unappreciated, fret not if the other person's light shines brighter. We're all just battery-powered, the more you use up, the faster you approach uselessness aka basking in the traces of emitted light aka dwelling in the remnants of the past aka pit of doom (for some).

Recognition has value, much more value than what some of us would like to admit. What matters more than recognition though is the lasting effect of what you do to your surroundings, including the people around you, and the fulfillment you (can) draw out of it. Those should always come first. (But all of them are pretty much correlated, eh?)

Another one of the greatest benefits you can probably squeeze out of the things you do is the self-improvement you gain. We do what we do to challenge ourselves; to see how far we can take something, to see how much we can hold.

You always talk about making the world a better place. Don't worry, I believe you can. Change is still change, no matter how small you think it is. Hey, in this world of 8 billion people (and more), it's hard to make a huge impact. So don't be too hard on yourself. (If you really want a quick and wide-encompassing influence there's always the fashion business. Well, it's only quick by the time you get to the upper tiers.)

We're all humans. We all want to be good at at something, even just one small thing. Significance is relative. If you think your only talent is making arm pit music, I'm sure you can be a rockstar and inspire many people in some community in the middle of some jungle.

Your time will come. Trust me it will. You just have to keep on doing what you do, keep on learning from every mistake you can possibly commit. Life seems so short. But if you compare yours to that of a fly's you can consider yourself lucky. Although life is every bit as uncertain as that of a fly. Someone can swat you to your death anytime, anywhere.

*splat*

The end.

This is dedicated to Dixi and all the other underappreciated geniuses and closet superheroes out there. In fact, it's somewhat a letter to myself as well. XD If you have more to add, feel free to comment.

And lastly, here's a quotation I picked up from some some other person's blog (he's got some brilliant posts although the thing is no longer updated).

A man named Bernard Bailey once said: "When they discover the center of the universe, a lot of people will be disappointed to discover they are not it."

..and whenever I feel under-appreciated, I say to myself "There are only two tastes in the world: my taste and bad taste. If they don't like my taste, then they must have acquired the latter." I feel somewhat better and more hopeful whenever I say that over and over. :p Ha ha.

hey...i felt hurt by what you said about the armpit music thing...but the intentions are good. peace.it's just too bad that not everyone thinks like you and appreciates the underappreciated.
but then...what if the guy IS an underachiever?
i'm just wandering if you could give him advice.

Paragraphs 2 and 7 are sort of related to that. There will always be something you're good at, no matter how much of an underachiever you are. That's pretty much based from experience ;) haha kidding. Oh, and I wrote this because Dixi and I talked about how we seem like underachievers, when we're actually just anderappreciated, and how we (more of I.. haha) sometimes become lazy to perform up to our own standards (which is kind of disappointing).

Cess: I would have to adopt that I'm sure to find a lot of use for that hahaha

it's fun whenever i see my name on your blog. it feels...flattering. :D (self-centered moment here)

"the underappreciated genius"...hmm...has a nice ring to it. but it sounds better if you omit the second word. ngyahahaha.

i'm spending too much time commenting on other people's blogs that i haven't updated mine yet. the science fair is so full of fat bullshit that the greasy (insert disgusting fat thing here) still won't come off my brain. (no, it's not because of anyone in particular. ngyahaha)

back to the blog...

i stopped caring at how messed up the world is a looong time ago. it makes things more simple. yet one of the most dreadful reasons i crave to be appreciated is to replenish that sense of meaning that my life has lost due to some unforeseen fuckup of reality. the secret to human nature is the craving to be appreciated. (quote from j3, 2005)

butt-pinching, aint it? oh well. i guess we're just closet everythings.

Oh yeah. I just realized while writing this that the secret to human nature is truly that - the need to be appreciated.

Yeah, closet everythings. Well, not *everything*, really. heh
